1. Who controls your data
ClearTape (“we”, “us”) provides the service at clear-tape.com. For privacy questions or requests, email support@clear-tape.com.
2. What we collect
- Account data — email address, password hash (if you use email sign-in), display identifiers we store for your session, and Google account identifiers if you sign in with Google.
- Product data — watchlists, alert rules, digest email opt-in preference, and similar settings you configure.
- Billing data — subscription status, Stripe customer and subscription IDs, and plan/trial metadata. Card numbers are handled by Stripe; we do not store full card details on our servers.
- Usage and technical data — IP address, user agent, and basic server logs needed to operate, secure, and debug the API and site.
- Communications — messages you send to support, and transactional emails we send (alerts, digests, billing-related notices via Stripe where applicable).
3. Why we use it
We process personal data to:
- Create and authenticate your account
- Provide Free and Pro features you request
- Process subscriptions, trials, renewals, and cancellations
- Send alert and digest emails you are enrolled in or opt into
- Secure the service, prevent abuse, and improve reliability
- Comply with law and respond to valid requests
Where UK GDPR / EU GDPR applies, our bases typically include contract (providing the service you signed up for), legitimate interests (security, product improvement, non-intrusive operations), and consent where required (for example certain cookies or optional marketing — ClearTape does not currently run third-party ad trackers on the core app).
4. Cookies and local storage
We use essential cookies or local storage for session authentication and preferences such as theme. These are required for the product to work as expected. We do not use the site as an advertising network. Browser controls can clear stored data; signing out ends the server session associated with your auth token.
5. Who we share data with
We use processors to run ClearTape. They only receive what is needed for their role:
- Stripe — payments, Customer Portal, invoices, tax where configured
- Google — Google OAuth sign-in when you choose it
- Email provider (Resend) — transactional alert and digest delivery
- Hosting — frontend (e.g. Vercel) and API / database hosting (e.g. Railway)
- Market data and news sources — Finnhub and similar providers supply market/news data to power the product; they are not used to sell your personal profile
We do not sell your personal data. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the service and users.
6. Retention
We keep account and billing records while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward for disputes, accounting, and legal obligations. You can request deletion by emailing support@clear-tape.com; we will delete or anonymize personal data unless we must retain it by law (for example certain billing records).
7. International transfers
Our hosts and processors may process data in the UK, EEA, United States, or other countries. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards offered by those providers (such as standard contractual clauses).
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data, and to object or port data. Contact support@clear-tape.com. You may also complain to your local data protection authority (in the UK, the ICO).
9. Children
ClearTape is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will take appropriate steps.
10. Changes
We may update this Policy as the product evolves. The “Last updated” date will change when we do. Continued use after updates means you accept the revised Policy where permitted by law.
